I was taught to follow all of these myths. My high school English teachers were very strict about Myth numbers six and seven. "When people say “I can’t write,” what they often mean is they have problems with grammatical correctness." All of these rules came into play though, I was never good at grammar and I still am not good at it. My teachers always gave me a bad grade just because there would be so many grammatical errors. I even started to take my papers to the teacher and ask her to proof read them and she would, then when i change them still give me a bad grade for grammar. Irvin hasn't changed my mind about these only being myths because I have always been told to do these and if I didn't then i would fail.
Yes, failing has a way of convincing students that these writing myths are real. They aren't myths if the teacher believes them.
